Famous and Fabulous Portraits: from George Washington to the Golden Girl
Over two centuries of portrait painting is represented in the exhibition Famous and Fabulous: From George Washington to the Golden Girl which opens to the public at The Arkell Museum at Canajoharie on January 20th, 2008 and remains on display until July 20, 2008. Chief Curator, Diane Forsberg, has selected works from the permanent collection for this exhibition which features portraits by some of America’s best known artists including Gilbert Stuart, Thomas Eakins and John Singer Sargent. Visitors to the exhibition will see one of Stuart’s portraits of George Washington.....

Arkell Museum and Canajoharie Library Plan First Holiday Art & Craft Fair
The Arkell Museum at Canajoharie and the Canajoharie Library announces its first Holiday Art & Craft Fair slated for Sunday, December 9, from noon to 5pm. The fair will showcase approximately a dozen craftspeople and will also feature a library used book sale, a baked goods sale, seasonal music and traditional ornament workshops for families....

Family Discovery Days
The Arkell Museum at Canajoharie is pleased to announce the launch of Family Discovery Days with its first event slated for Sunday, October 14, from 12:30 to 4:30pm. “This is a great example of the Arkell Museum’s commitment to children and families,” said Andy Albertson, Curator of Education & Public Programs. “These days are designed to engage all members of families, regardless of their ages....”

Fall 2007 Film Series with Introductions & Discussion with Scholars
In celebration of the opening of the Arkell Museum at Canajoharie, a film series titled “Small Towns; Big Dreams” will begin on Friday, October 12, at the new museum, and will run the second and fourth Friday of each month through December. All shows begin at 7:30pm and a $4 donation includes popcorn and refreshments....

Arkell Museum Seeks Contemporary Views of the Mohawk Valley
The Arkell Museum at Canajoharie asks people to submit their images of the Mohawk Valley that match or are similar to views on display in the new museum’s Great Hall. The theme is the Mohawk Valley and the museum wants to display works by both amateur and professional photographers who are interested in locating lost or preserved buildings and landscape views....
